Manchester City Trumps Liverpool as Title Favourites for EPL 2020/21

With the 2019/20 season nearing its end, all eyes are slowly turning on the 2020/21 season of the English Premier League. Can current champions Liverpool hold on to the title after three decades of shedding copious volumes of blood, sweat, and tears? Or do EPL fans get a new champion this season?

With seven weeks to go before the start of next season and no major Copa America or European championships in sight, fans might be tempted to predict the outcome of EPL 2020/21 on their favourite betting sites. Which begs the questions…

Which Team do Experts Predict Will Win EPL 2020/21?

  1. Manchester City – After winning two back-to-back seasons and cementing their place in EPL history, Manchester City had an unremarkable season in 2019/20. With a few questionable decisions and gameplay choices, City trailed Liverpool by 23 points as the Reds clinched the trophy.

Despite the massive points gap this season, experts believe Man City can rebound. So much so, they are the current favourites to win the championship next season. City desperately needs to reinforce its central defences after Rodri’s disappointing debut. While prodigy Phil Foden continues to try and fit into David Silva’s shoes.

It will be interesting to see whether City manages to pull off a win this season. A lot depends on the transfer window. If they manage to get the recruitments right and keep their top players fit, City might emerge with the title!

  1. Liverpool – The Reds are the second favourites to win the title in 2020/21. With a dominant streak this year, Liverpool managed to win the title with seven games remaining, experts are hoping for a rerun. With Jürgen Klopp insisting no major changes to the current side, Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara’s arrival from Bayern Munich is the only major reshuffle planned thus far.

Sustaining no major injuries this year, the Reds are hoping for more luck in the coming season. Their three pillars – Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane – had a remarkable season, which unsurprisingly propelled Liverpool to the forefront of the points table. It won’t be shocking to see Liverpool retain the title for the next season.

  1. Manchester United – Third in line, Manchester United could very well be the dark horse this season. Kicking off the decade on a high note, United won the 2010/11, 2012/13 seasons, and were runners-up in 2011/12; The Red Devils slowly fizzed out from the limelight after a streak of unremarkable seasons.

However, they seem to be getting back in form since January 2020, after the arrival of Portuguese star midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Paul Pogba’s return from injury brought some much-required class to United’s midfield too. While the fearsome attacking trio – Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford – has been a force to reckon with.

However, United still has a few creases to iron out in their line-up before the start of the next season. The management’s prowess in addressing these concerns will decide the teams’ fate in the upcoming clash.
