Leading contenders for Champions League success

This season’s Champions League group stage has produced plenty of drama and excitement already during the course of the early games across Europe. Europe’s elite club competition is always the centre of attention when it comes to club football across any season, with the most prestigious and best sides on the continent colliding for the biggest prize on offer.

That includes teams from England’s Premier League, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur currently vying for outright success in the competition.

Meanwhile, Ligue 1, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A are the other top division boasting sides hoping to go all the way this current campaign. But who will get their hands on the most desired trophy available in club football? Here are the five leading contenders to do exactly that come next May.

Premier League champions Manchester City are seen as one of the favourites to go all the way and prevail for the first time in their history in Betfair’s predictions for the next Champions League season, having looked strong during their early group games.  Pep Guardiola’s side are currently regarded as the 7/2 front-runners to get their grasp on the distinguished European Cup for the first time in their long history.

The Cityzens have become a strong force domestically and look more than likely of defending their league crown this current term after another bright start to proceedings, but Guardiola and his squad will be desperate to lift the Champions League more than any other honour.

Spanish giants Barcelona can never be written off when it comes to any competition they are involved in, particularly the Champions League. La Liga looks set to be dominated once again by the Catalan club, with bitter El Clasico rivals Real Madrid falling well off the pace in a dismal season so far, so that could boost their prospects in the European competition as well.

Ernesto Valverde’s men are seen at 5/1 second-favourites to rally to another European crown this season with the help of Argentine ace Lionel Messi and co.

Serie A titans Juventus have started the current campaign with solid displays and will be a danger to any side they eventually get drawn against in the knockout stage. The Turin outfit have a superb squad of players but they boast an ace in the pack in the form of the competition’s all-time record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been firing goals in for fun as always since arriving from Real Madrid this past summer.

French outfit PSG have long been seeking the Champions League crown to add to their many domestic league titles, since becoming a dominant force within their native France. Les Parisiens are currently seen at 8/1 to rally to an impressive and historic European victory this term. With the likes of attacking ace Edinson Cavani, Brazilian star Neymar and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe leading their line, it’s hard to back against them.
