FA Cup 1st Round Predictions: Can Barnet knock out Blackburn?

Blackburn v Barnet

Most League One games for Blackburn Rovers this season have the feel of a cup tie. A lot of the bottom half teams fresh from the fourth tier have relished a trip to Ewood Park, with Tony Mowbray’s side not always able to match their enthusiasm and energy levels. League Two Barnet badly need a competitive performance in this match to re-build confidence, after a 10-game winless run has seen them drop from seventh to 21st, outside the drop zone on goal difference. Head coach Rossi Eames has come under pressure but his side played well at top flight Brighton in August and they have already beaten League One opposition in Peterborough this term. 1-1

Boreham Wood v Blackpool

Boreham Wood extended their unbeaten National League run to seven games last week, but they could have found a winner in their 2-2 draw with Bromley had refereeing decisions gone their way. That match was about breaking down a team intent upon disrupting their play, but in this one, they will be the ones hoping to spoil and frustrate. 1953 FA Cup winners Blackpool are two divisions above and, after a 1-0 loss at Northampton that Gary Bowyer deemed the worst performance under him, complacency should not come into play. 0-2

Bradford v Chesterfield

Having so often been the orchestrators of a cup upset, Bradford City were the victims of one last season, when the crashed out in this round to League Two Accrington Stanley. There have been question marks about the depth of Stuart McCall’s squad, which has struggled significantly in the absence of key players like Tony McMahon and Charlie Wyke. Rotation might therefore lead to openings for lively Chesterfield striker Kristian Dennis, who boasts the fifth best goals per minute ratio in League Two. The Spireites remain bottom but have inched forward in the last three games, which have seen them acrue four points. 1-2
